"Good night sweet princess: May bands of angels sing thee to thy resting place." – Hamlet. Carol Jean Puchowski, age 71, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014 at home. She was born May 7, 1943 in Gary, Indiana to the late George J. and Dorothy (Miller) Puchowski. Carol was a dedicated educator and an inspiring school teacher at Lew Wallace High School in Gary, Indiana. She loved sharing her appreciation for Shakespeare with her students. Carol graduated from River Forest High School in 1961, Purdue University in 1965 and then earned her Master's Degree in Science of Secondary Education at Indiana University. She attended Assumption BVM Church, St. Bridget's Catholic Church both of Hobart and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton of Valparaiso. She was a member of Alpha XI Delta, Delta Kappa Gama International and Saint Ann's Sororities.
Carol is survived by two brothers, George Michael Puchowski and Gerald (Patricia Petersen) Puchowski both of Hobart; sister, Janet Richmond of Portage; nieces and nephews, Michelle (Moises)Vallejo, Jennifer ( Ricky Rayner Jr.) Richmond, Kaytlin Puchowski, Michael Puchowski; great nieces and nephew, Mya and Marley Vallejo; Vincent and Jade McDonald; children she loved as her own, Laura Roorda and Tony Malis; special childhood friends, Carol Jane, Dianne, Michelle, Nancy and Gloria; special teacher friends, Millie, Irene, Linda, Eleanor and Deanie; many other loving family members and friends.

A funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 25, 2014, beginning with 9:30 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, then proceeding for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Assumption BVM Church, 3530 Illinois Street, Hobart, Indiana 46342, with Rev. Lourdu Pasala officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.
