Carol Salazar

Carol Salazar (nee Schroeder), age 84, of Gary, IN passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

Carol was born on December 14, 1938 in Chicago, IL to the late Charles and Elise (nee Wilmoth) Schroeder.  She grew up in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago.  Carol worked at Alvarez Driving School, Home Hardware, and Big Lots.  She married Luis Salazar Carpio on December 29, 1959 and spent 50 loving years together until his passing in 2010.  She was a member of the Mutualista Club during the 1960s.  Carol was a member of St. Joseph the Worker for many years.  She enjoyed playing BINGO.

Carol is survived by her sons: Alfonso (Christine), Charles (Tricia) and Mark (Renee) Salazar; grandchildren: Nicole (Jonathan) Moore, Vincent (Clarissa) Slovey, Lauren Salazar, Lucas Salazar, Francesca Salazar, Hope Krajnak, and Maximilian Salazar; great-grandchildren: Layla, Kylin, Xander, Blayne, Abel, and Charlie; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband: Luis; her parents: Charles and Elise; twin sister: Marie-Catherine Flory and her husband, Gordon; brother: Leonard Billa; and nephew: Gordon Flory.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel (600 W Old Ridge Rd., Hobart) on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 2:00-6:00 P.M.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church (2949 Willowcreek Rd., Portage) on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held a half hour before mass beginning at 10:30 A.M.   At rest, Calumet Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carol's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , American Heart Association , or American Diabetes Accociation .
