CAROLINE "CARRIE" THORNE (nee TAKACS), age 77, of Merrillville, passed away Monday, December 5, 2011 Methodist Hospital, Southlake Campus. Carrie had been a longtime Hessville area resident and member of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Hebron. She was a Past High Priestess of Awalim Court #9, Hammond, Indiana in 1986, an Honored Lady of the Orak Shrine and lifetime member of Awalim Drum Corps.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Jane (Kevin) Freeman of Hobart, Debra Briney of Merrillville and Mary B. (Bobby) Spear of Crown Point, grandchildren: Stephen (Meghan) Pozywio, Walt Pozywio, Josh Freeman, Erika VanNoort, Bobby Spear III, 2 great grandsons: Sebastian Pozywio and Collin VanNoort, sister, Rose Lambert of Schererville, brother, Joseph (Yvonne) Takacs of Hammond and nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph and son, David.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 9, 2011 at 10 am at the Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, with Pastor Timothy Engel officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
