Carolyn Machaj

Carolyn Machaj, age 77, of Hobart, Indiana passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on March 5, 1949 to the late Alfred and Geraldine (nee Palmer) Hardin.

Carolyn retired from River Forest School, where she worked in the cafeteria. She was a wonderful mother who always had dinner on the table and took great pride in keeping an immaculate home. A devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear friend, Carolyn’s love was evident in the care she gave her family. Her daughter-in-law cherished her as a second mom, a testament to the special bond they shared.

Carolyn enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin with her beloved husband, David Lee Machaj, Sr. The two were married in 1968 and shared 48 years together before his passing in 2016. Their years together were filled with love, family and cherished memories that will remain in the hearts of those who knew them.

Carolyn is survived by her son, David (Robin) Machaj Jr.; her daughter, Diana Machaj; her sisters, Beverly Cauley and Terry (Donald) Stroud; her two grandsons, Justin (Breanna Mata) Machaj and Carter (Olivia Modello) Mohr; her two great granddaughters, Avriana and Rylee Machaj; her dearest friend, Angie Martinez; her special cousin, Eddie (Mary) Hardin; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David L. Machaj, and her sister, Patty Rice.

Carolyn will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her warm heart, and the love she shared through the everyday things that made a house a home. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the memories she created and the love she gave will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

At Carolyn’s request, no services will be held. Cremation has been entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342.
