Catherine J. Monroe, age 92, of Hobart passed away Wednesday July 2, 2014 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Catherine was born April 30, 1922 in Gary, Indiana to the late Simon and Sophie (Kuchte) Kalilec. Catherine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her loving family. She loved cooking, baking and canning for her family.

Catherine is survived by her loving husband Francis C. "Frank" Monroe; one son Francis R. "Frank" (Karen) Monroe of Hobart; two grandchildren Daniel Monroe and Gary (Donna) Monroe; five great grandchildren Joseph, Courteney, Phillip, Scott and Kaylee ; several nieces and nephews; and her puppy Nicki.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Frank Kalilec, three sisters Helen Czekaj, Julia Kalilec and Lottie A. Kalilec.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am Tuesday July 8, 2014 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, IN 46342 with Rev. Lourdu Pasala officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
