Charles Bencie
Age 95, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at St. Anthony Hospice in Crown Point surrounded by his family. Charles was born on January 28, 1918 in Vestaburg PA. to Zigmund and Julianna (Jakob) Bencze who have preceded him. He rose to the rank of Captain with the City of Gary Fire Department retiring in 1973.Charles spent another 15 years at USS.
Charles is survived by two sons; James (Doris) Bencie of the Villages, FL and Daniel (Paula) Bencie of Crown Point, IN; grandson, James E. (Margaret) Bencie of Westmont IL. and one great-grand-daughter Mellissa Kopp, many nephews and nieces and great-nephews and nieces and other loving family members and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sophie (nee Blaszczak) Bencie, five brothers, John (Barbara), Steve (Barbara), Joseph (Ruth), and Louis (Mary) Bencie and David Bencie, two sisters, Elizabeth (Andy) White and Helen (Ernest) Kaplan, daughter-in-law Judith Bencie, brother and sister-in-laws, Joseph,, John, Adam, Albin Blaszczak, also Ben (Lillian) Blajsczak and Genevieve (Matt) Hojnacki.
In lieu of flowers memorial are preferred to the charity of your choice.
Funeral services for Charles will be Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10:30 am at Rees Funeral Home- Olson Chapel 5341 Central Ave, Portage Indiana 46368, with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation for Charles will be Friday, December 20, 2013 from 4-8 pm also at Rees Funeral Home- Olson Chapel.
