Charles L. O'Connor, age 75, of Portage passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014. He was born on May 29, 1939 in Lansing, Illinois to the late Freeman and June (Walter) O'Conner. Following his graduation from high school at Thorton Fractional North, he was first employed at Field House Refrigeration.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany and France. Charles retired after 20 years of working for Methodist Hospital as a Mechanical Engineer. He enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams and loved to share a good joke with his friends. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family and his dog, Katie.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Jorie (Michael) Coll; son, Scott C. (Tami) O'Connor; brothers, Donald (Susan) O'Conner and Jack (Kate) O'Conner; sister, Sharon Lucietta; several loving nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Freeman and June O'Conner; wife, Karen J. O'Connor; beloved canine companion, Katie.

A funeral service will take place Monday, December 15, 2014 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN.
