Obituary

Charles D. Watts, age 76, of Portage, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 20, 1939 in East Gary, Indiana to the late Norman and Effie Watts. Charles was a graduate of East Gary Edison High School. On February 15, 1964, he married the love of his life, Darlene Chambers. He retired in 1997 after 31 years of working as a garage mechanic and gas serviceman for NIPSCO. In his free time, he loved working on cars, working in the yard, and playing the slots at Four Winds Casino.

Charles is survived by his adoring wife, Darlene (nee Chambers) Watts; sons, David (Bridget) Watts, Sr., Dennis A. Watts; precious grandson, David Watts, Jr.; step grandchildren, Shannon (Greg) Cox, Melisa (Jory) Leib, Aliza Daniels, and Zeb Daniels; 6 step great grandchildren; sisters, Carol Recania, JoAnn Pinkowski, Nancy (Harold) Pruitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Effie Watts; daughter, Darla Watts; 3 brother and 3 sisters. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Cancer Health Treatment Centers in Valparaiso and the staff at Infusion Center; all of you were great, especially Nicole.

A memorial visitation celebrating the life of Charles will take place Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage.
