CHARLEVELON SAWYER, age 81, of Hobart, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2012 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Charlevelon was born January 7, 1930 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to Irvin Kirk and Ora (nee Hatch) Kirk. She had been a Hobart resident since 1962 and retired custodian from Emerson High School in Gary with 19 years of service. Charlevelon was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ in Portage.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Joe Hershel Sawyer, daughter, Paula (Gerald) Hall of Portage, son, Johnie (Jackie) Sawyer of Valparaiso, 2 grandchildren: Michael (Jillian) Sawyer of Joliet, IL, Deanna (Richard) Johnson of Valparaiso, great grandson, Ellis Michael Sawyer of Joliet, IL, brother, Jearl Kirk of Lake Station, sister, Jewell (Bill) Poe of Plano, TX and nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin & Ora Kirk and brother, Merl Kirk. Memorial donations are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 9, 2012 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, with Bishop Jarret Randall Spence officiating.
