Cheryl Jo Lauber, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the age of 70. She was born on October 2, 1956.
Cheryl was a dedicated teacher’s aide at Clark Middle School in St. John. She was known for her patience, understanding, and genuine compassion for her students. She especially embraced learning new ways to teach and support children with special needs. Her commitment to helping children extended beyond the classroom, as she volunteered her time at the Give Away Booth, helping provide school supplies to children in need.
Cheryl had a zest for life and loved having fun. She enjoyed everything from amusement parks to camping adventures. She loved to read, garden, create arts and crafts, and spend evenings binge-watching Law & Order and CSI: Miami. Those who knew her might describe her as rough around the edges and smooth around the heart—a strong and sometimes outspoken woman with a deeply caring heart.
Family was important to Cheryl, and she took pride in being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her son, James Uitermarkt; daughter, Jessica (Chuck) Livesay and their three children; brother, Jim (Michelle) Lauber; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patricia Chick.
Cheryl’s unexpected passing has left a profound emptiness in the lives of those who loved her. She will be remembered for her dedication to her students, her willingness to help children in need, her love of family, her many interests and adventures, and the unmistakable personality that made her uniquely Cheryl.
Though her life ended far too soon and under tragic circumstances, the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the memories she created will remain with those who knew and loved her.
