Chester J. "Butch" Ochwat, age 75, of Portage passed away Wednesday November 12, 2024, at St Mary Medical Center in Hobart, Indiana. Butch was born April 7, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Chester and Rose (Slowikowski) Ochwat. Butch was a retired Machinist who retired from Solo Cup, Inc. He enjoyed fishing, loved nature and watching deer.

Butch is survived by his loving wife, Carol; daughter, Jill (Chad) Howell of Portage; five grandchildren, Taylor (Koleton) Haws, Kenneth Clasen, Kaitlynn Clasen, Nicholas Howell, and Josephina Clasen; three great grandchildren, Piper Haws, Jaxon Haws, and Baker Lee Clasen; his devoted four-legged friend Ruby; and many dear friends and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters, Dawn Rose Ochwat and Jennifer Marie Ochwat.

Visitation for Butch will be held from 2-8 pm Friday November 15, 2024, at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, Indiana 46342. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin with 9:30 am prayers Saturday November 16, 2024, at the Funeral Home and then process to St. Bridget Catholic Church 107 Main Street Hobart, Indiana. Rev. Benjamin Ross will officiate. Cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the Hobart Humane Society in Butch's honor.
