Chieko Kajiwara Underwood, age 70, of South Bend went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 3:23 p.m. at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart, Indiana, with her loving family by her side. Chieko was born January 17, 1943 in Fukuoka, Japan to the late Seijiro and Tane Kajiwara. Chieko was also preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Joe and Marie Morreale of Lake Station, Indiana.

Chieko is survived by her husband, Joe Ben Underwood of South Bend, Indiana; her daughter, Sandra (Craig) Hiler of South Bend, Indiana; her son, Joseph Underwood of New Albany, Indiana; and three grand children; Jacob and Jessica Hiler of South Bend, IN and Joshua Underwood of New Albany, IN. Chieko and her husband Joe Ben were married in Fukuoka, Japan in 1963 and then moved to the United States where they raised their family in Indiana.

Chieko will be remembered for her constant, abundant, and unconditional love for her family and for her strong faith in God. She would always say, "stay with Jesus." Her greatest joy in life was making others happy, and she touched every life she came across. She will be greatly missed by many.

Funeral services will be held at Jubilee Worship Center, 415 N. Hobart Rd., Hobart, IN on Friday, April 26, 2013. Visitation will be held at church from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. EST with services celebrating her life immediately following. Services will be provided by her nephew, Bishop Dale P. Combs, MA. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage, Indiana.
