Obituary

A man of great integrity, love, and strength has moved on from this world to a better place.
Chris Georgeff, age 80, of Hobart Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 after an extended illness with his family by his side. He was born in Crystal City, Missouri on December 24, 1931 to Constantine and Fana Georgeff. He then moved to Gary, Indiana where he spent his childhood. Chris attended and graduated from Lew Wallace High School where he met the love of his life Lori. Chris honorably served his country and is a veteran of the United States Army. He attended Valparaiso University and graduated from the university earning a Bachelor's of Science Degree.
Chris worked as an industrial engineer for U S Steel in Gary, Indiana for thirty years. He then worked as an industrial engineer and human resources manager for Gainer Bank in Merrillville, Indiana for more than ten years. Chris finished his professional career working for Tech Federal Credit Union in Crown Point, Indiana for five years subsequent to his retirement. However, even in retirement Chris remained very active and took pride in being the care taker for his family.
Chris was a gifted musician and played tenor saxophone and clarinet for the majority of his life. He formed and played in his band the Macedonian All Stars and then was an integral part of the very popular band "Ray Stinson's Moonglows" for over thirty years. He also played for many years in a popular Dixieland band "The Gashouse Gang." Chris played music for countless people in the majority of venues across Northwest Indiana and touched many lives with his gift. He passed on his musical talent to his only son and granddaughter who both play the piano. Chris was a huge supporter of his son's music and band and attended many of their shows up until recent months.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years Lori Georgeff, his only son Christopher Georgeff (BeLinda), his greatest joy in life granddaughter Lauren Georgeff of Valparaiso, IN, twin sister Sylvia AhYou of Freemont CA, sister Ella Gilbertson (Richard) of Hobart, IN, and several nieces and nephews.
Chris ("Deeba" as he was known to his son and wife) was a gentle man and father whose strength and devotion to family was foremost in his life. He was completely selfless and always took care of others even during his most challenging times and up to his final hours. Those who were fortunate enough to have him in their lives were truly blessed. To honor him and his wishes, a private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
