Chris Niloff Jr., age 84 of Highland, Illinois formerly a longtime Portage resident passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014. He was born on February 8, 1930 in Gary, Indiana to the late Christ and Rose Niloff. Chris served his country in the U.S. Army and was a former member of the American Legion Post #100 in Lake Station. He retired in 1999 from Dietrich Industries where he had worked as Forklift Operator. He was also a member of the Local Teamsters #142. After retirement Chris enjoyed working a part time job at Doyne's Marine in Portage. Chris loved traveling to Tennessee, Southern Illinois, and Missouri to visit with family and friends. He also enjoyed playing pool, bowling in leagues and poker tournaments. He was a very social person and never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Gracie Niloff (nee Partin) of Highland, IL, formerly of Portage, IN; 3 children, Karen (Allen) Afshar of Highland, IL; Derrick Niloff of Portage, IN; David Niloff of Portage, IN; 1 brother, George (Marty) Niloff of FL; sister-in-law, Marge Niloff, 3 grandchildren, Amir Afshar, Austen Afshar, and Joshua Niloff, honorary grandchildren, Erin Wendt, Maegan Wendt, and Trinity Costila, and several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and other family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Russell Niloff, 4 brothers, Alex (Albina), John (Mildred), Walter, and Wasil "Kotsie" (Carol) Niloff, and 1 sister, Rose (Frank)Rosperski.
Funeral services are Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage with Pastor Richard Brown officiating. Cremation will follow the service with Rees Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Visitation is Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage.
