CHRISTINE A. WHITTAKER, age 87, of Hobart, and formerly a longtime Portage resident, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013. She was born on December 3, 1925 in Gary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian; her parents, Stephen and and Helen Homiak ; and her brother, David Homiak.
Christine had previously worked for the Portage School Systems and had attended Augustana Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening and crafts and always had a special place in her heart for animals. Christine will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Christine is survived by her sister, Betty (George) Kelchak of Chesterton; sister-in-law, Dorothy Homiak of Loveland, CO her son, Kenneth (Katherine) Whittaker of Valparaiso and their daughter, Lindsay; her daughter, Regina (Raymond) Walters of Hobart and their daughters, Tracy (Juan) Hernandez and Dena (Dustin) Ristau; and her 5 great grandchildren, Josalyn, Eliyas, Tyler, Devin, and Rylan; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

A memorial service for Christine will be Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel with Rev. Charles Strietelmeier officiating.
