CLYDE E. MORRIS, age 97, of Hobart, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Clyde was born in Chicago, IL on December 5, 1917 to the late Charles and Mary Morris. He graduated from Wheeler High School in 1935. Clyde retired as a metallurgical foreman from US Steel in 1979 after 41 years of service. He was very active in pastoral care at several hospitals, including St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, St. Margaret in Hammond, St. Anthony in Crown Point, Porter Memorial in Valparaiso, and Broadway Methodist Northlake and Southlake Campuses. He helped found the St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary Red Coats. Clyde also served as assistant Pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Hebron from 1988-1996. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed meeting with the "Breakfast Club" at the Bright Spot. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his 2 daughters, Judy (Richard) Morehouse and Donna (Randy) Lopez both of Hobart; 4 grandchildren, Sherri Pendleton, Gregory (Patty) Morehouse, Jill (Steve) Zakutansky, and Dawn Lopez; 7 great grandchildren, Michael Morehouse, Andrew and Jennifer Pendleton, Adrianna, Molly, Mikayla and Megan Zakutansky; great-great grandchild, Hayden Purcell and one arriving in May; niece, Jeannie Ellian; nephew, Roger Morris; many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy; son, Glen Allen; infant great granddaughter, Selena Elizabeth Zakutansky; nephew, Charles Morris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
A funeral service for Clyde will be Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., with Pastor Richard Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, April 17, 2015 from 2:00-8:00 p.m.
