Cory Joseph Michael Shane, age 34, of Portage passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at his home in Portage. Cory was born August 24, 1991, in Valparaiso, Indiana to Victoria and Eric (Norman) Shane. He worked in the auto department at Walmart. He was the family jokester, he loved his family, fantasy football, sports of all kinds, and playing video games with his friends and brothers.

He is survived by his mother, Victoria Shane of Portage; his father, Eric (Lori) Shane of Hammond; five brothers and sisters, Gage (Michelle) Shane of Portage, Brook (James) Shane of Portage, Ashley Sornson, Leah Shane of Gary, and Kayla Hughes of Gary; his grandmother, Carole Shane; six nieces and nephews, Analynn Myers, Sophia Sornson, Carter Myers, Chloe Sornson, William Raine, III, and Journee Shane, his aunt, Anna York; cousins, Amber, Megan, Paige, and Alex Klatt; best friends, Nick Sheeman and David Angeluci; Godmother, Nikki Kasprzak; and many other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Larry Shane and Bobby Norman; his aunt, Carrie Shane; and his cousin, Taylor Klatt.

A memorial visitation will be held for Cory on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 2-3 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Ave. Portage, Indiana. A memorial service will follow immediately at the funeral home with Rev. Jason Kegebein officiating.
