Cyril M. "Cy" Barnes, age 85, of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017. He was born on September 8, 1931 in Gary, Indiana. On June 26, 1954, he married the love of his life, Nancy (nee Mokol) Barnes. Cy spent his career as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Local 142. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, the White Sox and especially the Blackhawks. In his free-time, he enjoyed working in the garden and singing. Above all, he loved his family and will always be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Cy is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; daughters, Susan (David) Hickey, Carolyn (Roman) Filipowicz; grandchildren, David Swickard, Amber Hickey, Tammie (Matt) Langbehn, Josh (Monique) Hickey, Shannon (Eric) Boldenow, Lindsey Hickey; one great grandchild, Owen Langbehn, and another one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Walter Barnes and Adeline Robinson; brother, John Barnes, Jr.; cherished four legged friend, Tanker.

A funeral service for Cy will take place Monday, July 3, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. He will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Visitation will be held Monday, July 3, 2017 from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
