Daniel "General" Westmoreland
Crown Point, Indiana
Age 73, a lifetime Northwest Indiana resident, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Saint Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Daniel was born on October 2, 1940 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to the late C.B. and Mary (nee Hill) Westmoreland. He was a retired maintenance worker at U.S. Steel. On October 25, 1960, Daniel married the love of his life Gale Leonard in Black Oak. Dan will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Gale Westmoreland of Crown Point; four daughters, Dana (Johnny) Hand of Westville, Joy (Kenny) Collmar of Wheatfield, Christie (Dave) Sluder of Lake Station and Shannon Wilhelm of Chesterton; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth (Pat) Westmoreland of Valparaiso, Larry (Stella) Westmoreland of Munster and Dennis Westmoreland of Indianapolis, sister Carolyn (Rocky) of Indianapolis, many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill (Sharon) Westmoreland, sister, Rachel (Charles) Mejean and sister-in-law, Elmerine Westmoreland.
A funeral service for Daniel will be Friday, December 13, 2013 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana, with Pastor David L. Mueller. Burial at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. Visitation will be Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. also at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart.
