Daniel C. "Danny" Gonzalez, age 74, of Portage, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 11, 1942 in Laredo, Texas to the late Jesus and Concepcion Gonzalez. He spent his career working as a steelworker for Arcelor Mittal Steel. In his free time, Danny was an avid car enthusiast and spent many hours taking care of his prized 1955 Chevy. He was an avid Cubs and sports fan. Above all, he cherished his family and the time he spent with them. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Margarita Gonzalez; daughters, Edna Gonzalez of Portage and Brenda (Ediberto) Lopez of Portage; grandchildren, Joaquin, Elena and Anya Lopez; brother, Jesse (Angeles) Gonzalez of Laredo, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Concepcion Gonzalez.
Visitation for Danny will be held Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a 4:00 p.m. prayer service at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, March 11, 2016 at 10:00 am at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage with visitation at church from 9:00 am until the time of service.
