Obituary

David Barragan, age 66 of Portage, passed away April 9, 2025. He was born on August 15, 1958, in Gary, Indiana. He was a talented musician and enjoyed playing his acoustic guitar. In his free time, he also enjoyed playing league pool. David loved everyone. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back. His greatest joy in life was his family and he cherished spending time with them.

He is survived by his mother, Judy Barragan; loving companion, Shari Thacker; daughter, Leslie  (Joseph Santana) Barragan; son, Robert (Melissa) Anderson; the children he helped raise, Demi (Will) Olson, Elena Aristith; 13 grandchildren, Malakai, Morgan, Azarius, Elias, Taylor, Hayley, Grant, Nathan, Isaiah, Emiah, Nevaeh, Conner, Caison; three bonus grandchildren, Casey, Nathaniel, and Elijah. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Frank (Patricia) Barragan, Ray (Kari) Ruvalcaba, Peter (Jill) Ruvalcaba, Phillip Barragan, Robert Ruvalcaba, Mark (Tammy) Barragan, Ruthie (Pat) Adank, Hopie (Marty) Stauffer, Elizabeth (Calvin) Collette, Debby (Ruben) Flores; and many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Barragan; biological mother, Ruth Barragan; brothers, Manuel and Petey Barragan.

A celebration of David's life will take place Friday, May 2, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 11:00 pm at the American Legion Post #260, 5675 Mulberry Ave., Portage.
