David Chavez, age 42 of Portage, IN, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021. He was born on January 12, 1979 in Evergreen Park, IL, the son of Raymond and Alice Gill (nee Escobedo) Chavez. He was a graduate of Portage High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue University in Lafayette. David was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.  He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend.

David is survived by his parents, Raymond and Alice Chavez of Portage, two sisters; Melissa Chavez of Valparaiso and Angel (Deondrick) Jackson of Portage; nephew, Rudy Ortega III, four nieces; Olivia and Chloe Hosking, Jocelyn and Mia Ortega; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Chavez III; and maternal grandparents, Manuel Z. and Carmen Gill Escobedo; paternal grandparents, Raymond Sr. and Pauline Chavez; and aunt, Veronica Escobedo.
