Obituary

DAVID R. JACOBS, age 64, of Portage, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015. He was born on June 8, 1951 in Gary and was a lifelong area resident. David married the love of his life, Marilyn (nee Bauswell) on July 1, 1972 and remained devoted to her during their 43 years of marriage. He worked at Rockwell for 8 ½ years and then retired after 26 years of service as a crane operator at Calumet Flexicore . David was also a veteran of the US Army and the Army Reserves. He formerly attended Lakeview Baptist Church, United Pentecostal Church and Church of Jesus Christ. David was a very intelligent man who was an avid reader and had a natural ability to solve math problems. He will be remembered as a hardworking, loving man who will be dearly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, and friends.

David is survived by his wife, Marilyn; 3 children, Jennifer R. Borman of Michigan City, Tammy S. Erwin of Portage, and James N. (Kimberley) Jacobs of South Haven; 10 grandchildren, Theodore and Ashley Shadley, Coryna Vargas, Rebecca Borman, Magdelin Metheny, Arial Borman, Mathew Shupe, Zachary Erwin, Nathan and Elizabeth Jacobs; father, Joseph A. Jacobs of Portage; 2 brothers, Richard A. (Marlene) Jacobs and Daniel (Phyllis) Jacobs of Chesterton.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene.

A funeral service will be Friday, September 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Burial will follow at Graceland. Visitation will be Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, (219) 762-3013 or online to extend condolences at www.reesfuneralhomes.com.
