Obituary

David M. Jatczak, age 57, of Lake Station, passed away Thursday June 1, 2017. He joined the fire service in 1979 and was a very well-known and respected instructor with many certifications. He had been a member of the Lake Station Fire Department for nine years and had previously served with IUPUI (Indiana University) Fire Protection as Deputy Chief; ArcelorMittal Steel Fire Department; College Park Fire Department (Maryland); Greenbelt Fire Department (Maryland); and others. He had a long and distinguished career of serving and training others who serve. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and dedicated public servant.

David is survived by his wife, Brenda (nee Dorsett) Jatczak of Lake Station; two sons, Bobby (Amanda) Thompson and Brian (Michelle) Thompson both of Valparaiso; two daughters, Traci (Shawn) Gillis of Wisconsin and Tina (Jeff) Gillis of Valparaiso; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jeffrey and Douglas Jatczak; sister, Susan (Thomas III) Selby; two nieces, Megan and Nikki Shelby and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Frances Jatczak.
Funeral Services for David will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 11:00 am directly at Thomas A. Edison High School, 3304 Park Side Ave, Lake Station, Indiana 46405. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 2:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. directly at Thomas A. Edison High School, 3304 Park Side Ave. Lake Station, Indiana 46405. Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, is handling arrangements.
