David Michael Klym, age 75 a longtime Lake Station resident passed away, Friday, February 1, 2019. He was born on April 13, 1943 in Gary, Indiana to the late Michael and Anne Klym. David graduated from Lew Wallace, Class of 1961 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy. He then went to work for Bethlehem Steel as an Electrician. He served with the Lake Station Fire Department for over 35 years and retired as Assistant Fire Chief. He was a member of the Lake Station American Legion Post 100, the Lake Station VFW Post 9323, and the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association. David loved fishing and going out on his boat. He was very crafty and always working on a project.
He is survived by seven children, Debi (Kenny) Cates, Julie (Pat) Kennedy, Steve (Sheila) Maynard, Joe (Kim) Maynard, Michelle (Joe) Emons, Tammie (Richie) Klym, Michael Klym, one brother, Jerry (Phyllis) Klym, grandchildren, Kim (Marc), Tracie (Kyle), Sandy (Steve), Patrick (Amanda), Stephanie (late Chad), Stacy (Jeff) , William (Autumn), Zac (Kayla) Christopher, Justin, Holly, Jessica, Mariana, Felix, Edward, and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Klym, and one sister, Nancy Ballog.
Funeral services are Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev Charles Strietelmeier officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville. Visitation is Monday, February 4, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Firefighters service taking place at 7:00 pm.
