David Lee Machaj, Sr., age 66, of Hobart, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at home. He was born on April 23, 1949 in Hammond, Indiana to Stanley and Charlene Machaj. Dave worked as a body man and painter for Great Lakes Peterbilt. He was a member of Teamsters Local #142 and the Moose Lodge in Portage. In his free time, Dave enjoyed fishing and he loved his dog, Shadow.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Machaj; mother, Charlene Uhles; mother in law, Geraldine Hardin; son, David (Robin) Machaj, Jr.; daughter, Diana (Eddie Dick) Machaj; grandchildren, Justin (girlfriend, Breanna Mata) Machaj, Carter Mohr; and one great grandchild on the way. Also surviving are his brothers, Stanley (Liz) Machaj, Jr., Carl Uhles, Rosendo (Jennifer) Guerrero; sister, Carla Smardzija; sister in law, Beverly (Richard) Cauley; and many loving nieces, nephews and other family members. He will be sorely missed by his beloved dog, Shadow.
Dave is preceded in death by his father, Stanley Machaj, Sr.; and father in law, Alfred Hardin. Memorial contributions in Dave's name may be made to the family.
