David Eugene McGriff, nicknamed Fred by many, age 70 of Crown Point, Indiana passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013. He was born on April 28, 1943 in Rochester, Indiana to the late John and Leota McGriff. He retired from Mid-County Machining and Fabricating where he had worked as a Machinist. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the Bricklayer's Union. In his free time David enjoyed woodworking but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn (Waeckerle) McGriff; 4 daughters, Tonya (Kevin) O'Rourke of Hobart, Lori (Carl) Wilmsen of Chesterton, Lisa Teumer of Hobart and Cindy (Dave Mathews) McGriff of Westville, 18 grandchildren; Kyle O'Rourke, Bryan O'Rourke, Shannon O'Rourke, Eric Wilmsen, Ann Wilmsen, Sara Wilmsen, Abigail Wilmsen, Emily Wilmsen, Scott Wilmsen, Thomas (Angela) Teumer, Geralyn (Joel Jones) Teumer, Erica (Nick) West, Felicia Teumer, David Barriga, Freddy Barriga, Alex Barriga, Dominic Barriga and Adrian Barriga, 1 great grandchild, Olivia Teumer, brother, Lloyd McGriff, sister, Judy (Jeff) Westbrook, numerous nieces and nephews and 2 former son in laws, Thomas R Teumer and Federico Barriga Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Leota (Carr) McGriff, beloved aunt, Bobbie Jean Carr, brother, John McGriff, sisters, Martha (McGriff) Brownfield and Sue (McGriff) Arnold. Memorial contributions in David's name may be made to the Herbert Dresbaugh III Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Funeral services are Friday, December 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Father Dominic Bertino officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is being held Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
