David J Richards, age 89, of Hobart passed away Monday, March 24, 2025. Dave was born February 8,1936, in Gary, Indiana to the late Godfrey and Mary (Manion) Richards. He retired from US Steel with over 30 years of service. Dave was a retired Navy Veteran, a member of the Tin Can Sailors, a life member of the Benevolent and Protective order of the Elks Hobart lodge #1152 as well as Valparaiso lodge #500. Dave was voted Elk of the year from 1994-1995 by Hobart lodge.

Dave enjoyed many things during retirement including delivering flowers for Kellen's florist in Hobart, employment at Rees as well as Pruzin funeral homes, an avid NASCAR and football fan. He loved to travel, working on cars, being outdoors, tinkering in the garage and enjoying a cold beer on his back deck.

He is survived by his loving wife Deborah (Kleinwachter) Richards, daughter Terri Richards of Tacoma, Washington; three grandchildren, Breana (Claudia) Born of Rhode Island, Nicholas Stevens of Michigan, and Eric Richards of Washington; two great grandchildren; a sister, Joan (the late Chuck) Luedtke of Hobart; a sister-in-law Audrey Richards of Hobart; and several nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Tammy (David) Follis; and two brothers, Richard "Dick" Richards and Jim Richards.

Memorial visitation for Dave will be Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 1:00 until the time of the Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
