Delmar Ivan Melton

Delmar Melton, age 83, of DeMotte passed away Tuesday June 2, 2020 at Franciscan Health Crown Point.  He was born December 18, 1936 in East Gary, Indiana to the late Samuel and Cora Jane (Vandewater) Melton. Delmar retired from Gary Steel Products where he worked as a Machine Shop Supervisor.  He also worked several years for the Rock Island Railroad.  Delmar retired as a Captain of the Sauk Village Volunteer Fire Department where he served as a firefighter and an EMT.  He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion.

Delmar is survived by his loving wife, Jo Melton; three children Denise (Hernando) Zavala of St. John, Jennifer (Jason) Harris of New Braunfels, TX and Gregory Melton of DeMotte; two brothers, Forest Melton of California and John (Glenda) Melton of Grovertown; Nine Grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ernestine Melton; two sons, Delmar Ivan Melton, Jr. and Donald Melton; and nine brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Friday June 5, 2020 at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel 3781 Central Avenue Lake Station, Indiana 46405.  Burial will follow in Blake Cemetery in Portage.

Following State Guidelines only twenty-five people will be allowed in the funeral home at any given time, as attendees leave new guest will be admitted.  Masks are recommended.
