Demaris "Jan" Vickers, age 72, of Portage, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015, at VNA Hospice in Valparaiso. Jan was born on January 19, 1943 to the late Grandville G. and Eunice Maud (Nee Ellis) Childress in Dyersburg, Tennessee. She retired after 28 years of working as a Pickle line Process Control Clerk for Bethlehem Steel. She was a 1962 graduate of Emerson High School in Gary, Indiana. Jan was a member of St. Bridget's Church in Hobart, St. Anne's Confraternity of Christian Mothers, Maria Reiner Senior Center, SOAR chapter 31-13 "PWP" Parents without Partners in Porter County. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her loving children; two sons, Thomas (Kathy) Zytko, Jason (Anne-Marie) Zytko both of Missouri; daughter, Stacie (Rob) Gulley of Hobart; Nana to, Shelby, Sam, Abbey, and Ava Zytko, Dani and Matthew Gulley and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Barbara, Eunice, Geneva and Helen and two brothers, Jim and AJ Childress.
Memorial donations in Jan's name may be made to VNA Hospice of Valparaiso.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 2:00- 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342. A Mass of Christian Burial for Jan will be held directly at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 568 East 2nd Street, Hobart, Indiana 46342 on, Friday, January 30, 2015 at 10am. Additional visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Dominic V. Bertino officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart.
