Dencil R Knapp, age 86, of Valparaiso passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Dencil was born January 22, 1928 in Glenwood, West Virginia. Dencil was a retired Supervisor for EJ&E Railroad. He proudly served the United States Army and loved the outdoors.
Dencil is survived by his two sons, Dale (JoAnne) Knapp of Valparaiso, Dexter (Alice Jean) Knapp of Valparaiso; three daughters, Barbara O'Dell of Valparaiso, Karen (Richard) Fleming of La Porte and Beverly (Daniel) Simmons of Valparaiso; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Ian (Betty) Knapp, Donald (Clara) Layne, Broddis Layne, Douglas (Donna) Layne and James Cooper Jr, four sisters, Doris Poston, Betty Lindsey, Jo Ann (Bernard) Adkins and Ermie Blake and other loving family members and friends.He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Lou (nee Springman) Knapp, Mother, Faunie (Charles) Layne, father, James Cooper; brother, Dalton (Olga) Layne; three sisters, Vivan, Lucille and Freda and Son-in-law, Timothy O'Dell.In lieu of flowers donations to Horton VNA Hospice in Valparaiso would be appreciated.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Burial will follow at Hobart Cemetery.
