Dennis Loren Nelson, age 68 a lifetime Hobart resident passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014. He was born on January 15, 1946 in Gary, Indiana to the late Dacre L. and Dorothy L. Nelson-Krull. He retired from U.S. Steel where he had worked as a Carpenter. He was a member of the Hobart Historical Society. Dennis enjoyed woodworking, genealogy, projects with neighbors, time in his garage, fishing, camping, and especially time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Nelson (Nee Clasen) of Hobart, IN; 4 daughters, Lorri Nelson and Kathy Fry of Lake Station, IN; Rhonda Fulkerson of Lake Station, IN; Victoria Nelson of Valparaiso, IN; Christine (fiancé, Eddie Kowalczyk) Wineland of Hobart, IN; 2 sisters, Ann (Roger) Sullivan of Hobart, IN; Merry Benke of Hobart, IN; 6 grandchildren, Sara (James) Mitchell of Hobart, IN; Megan Nelson of Lake Station, IN; Erica (Marcus) Jones of Sterling, KY; April Underdahl of Hobart, IN; Kyle Underdahl of Hobart, IN; Hanna Fulkerson of Lake Station, IN; 4 great-grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, and Maddy Mitchell, and Karson Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Jessica Fulkerson.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a funeral service at 7 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Ed Heavner officiating.
