Dennis W. "Red" Vanecek, age 65 a lifelong Hobart resident passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013. He was born on May 31, 1947 in Gary, Indiana to the late Albert and Elizabeth Vanecek. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Dennis retired from the Hobart Fire Department where he had worked for many years. After retirement he worked for Burke's Lawn and Garden Equipment. Dennis was a loving brother and a friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his sister, Nina (Robert) Massa, 1 niece, Elizabeth Massa, 1 great-niece, Vanessa Claar of Valparaiso, IN.

Funeral services are Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Burial will follow at San Pierre Cemetery.
