DON H. HUDDLESTON, age 85, of Lake Station, passed away Monday, September 3, 2012 at VNA Hospice in Valparaiso. He was a lifelong Lake Station resident, a US Navy Veteran of WWII, and was employed as a car man at EJ&E railroad. Don enjoyed fishing and singing karaoke. He was a calligraphy handwriting expert and sign painter extraordinaire. Don painted many signs, stock cars and fire trucks. He enjoyed hunting for Indian artifacts and arrowheads. Don worked on and built fishing equipment. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather.
Don is survived by 2 sons, Don (Loretta) Huddleston, Erik Huddleston, all of Lake Station; daughter, Rene (Robert) Maza of Lake Station; grandchildren, Babette (Tom) Lawson, Kellie (George) Chalabis, Julie (Mike) Hritz, Erik, Alek, Brock and Drake Huddleston; great grandchildren, Tyler, Mike, Isabelle, Lillian, Alek Jr., Laila; other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen; mother, Gladys Colyer; father, Porter Huddleston; stepfather, Clarence Colyer; brothers and sisters, Everett and Gene Huddleston, Dolores Finnerty and Betty Zbrowski.
A funeral service for Don will be Friday, September 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Ave., Lake Station with Deacon Richard Huber officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage.
