Donald Eugene Dean

Donald Eugene Dean, age 81, of Portage, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018.  He was born in Gary, Indiana on March 25, 1937 to the late Leslie and Clara (nee Jacob) Dean. He joins his brother, Lee Davis Dean, who passed away February 7, 2017 and his infant daughter, Theresa.

Donald is survived by his children, Michael Dean and Diana Maza (Dean); and daughters, Evon (Ray Lynch) of Williamsburg, KY, Donna Dean of Corbin, KY.

He has seven grandchildren all living in Kentucky.  Evon's children are Rebecca, Heather, and Justin; great grandchild, Ayden (Justin).  Donna's children are Flori Ann, Kyle, Charity, and Tyler.

He was affectionately known to his sisters as "Donnie": Nancy (Russel) Bible, Alice (Don) Shingler, Ruth (Lee) Dean; along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Donald was a lifelong area resident of Portage, Indiana.  He was a part of the 1957 Portage High School Class.  He served in The United States Navy, spending a majority of his time in Memphis, Tennessee and Anchorage, Alaska.  He held several jobs over the years, but was happiest working on vehicles.  Don worked with his brother, Lee, for many years at Dean's Auto Sales and Service.

A funeral service for Donald will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 5:20 PM at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Ave. Lake Station, IN 46405.  Visitation will also take place on Tuesday from 2-6 PM at the funeral home.  He will be laid to rest Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 10:00 am at McCool Cemetery, 2700 McCool Rd, Portage, IN 46368.  For more information please call 219-962-1606.
