Donald L. Gospodarek, age 81, a longtime resident of Hobart, passed away on Saturday, November 06, 2010. He was born on September 15, 1929 in Gary, the son of Sigmund and Regina Gospodarek. Don was a graduate of Bishop Noll High School and then proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was married to Patricia L. Zytko on May 29, 1954 in Glen Park. Don was a teamster for Armour and Company and worked construction until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of American Legion Post # 207. Don had been a coach for Pop Warner Football, a chief with the YMCA Indian Guides, and was a ranger with Cressmoor and Indian Ridge Golf Clubs. Don was an avid golfer who had a tee time at 1:40 am with the angels.
Don is survived by his loving family; wife Patricia L. Gospodarek, Hobart, daughter Regina (Robert) Hubster, Merrillville, sons Kenneth (Christine) Gospodarek, Hobart, Joseph (Donna) Gospodarek, Hobart, and Ronald Gospodarek, Valparaiso, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, sisters Donna Glavan, Aurora, CO, Stephanie Tokarz, Dunedin, FL, and Irene Waytasek, Portage, brothers Eugene (Doreen) Gospodarek, Maricopa, AZ, Jerry Zytko, Gary, and Tom (Frieda) Zytko, North Las Vegas, NV, and other loving family and dear friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation for Donald Gospodarek will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. An American Legion Post 207 service and military honors will be held at 4:00 pm and a prayer service will be offered at 6:00 pm on Tuesday. A morning visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, 568 East 2nd Street, Hobart, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 12:00 noon.
