DONALD E. GREER, age 75, of Chesterton, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015. He was born on May 2, 1940 in Leavenworth, KS to the late Charles Leonard and Maudie Marie Greer. Donald served his country in the US Navy on a LST during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1967. Donald was an employee at Hohner Excavating, Goldston Trucking, and R&B Truck Service retiring after 35 years of service. He was a member of Valparaiso Baptist Church. In his early years, Donald loved to farm, operate excavating equipment, work with his hands and help family and friends in their time of need. He enjoyed going to tractor shows in his spare time and loved his family dearly. Donald will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Donald is survived by his son, John (Leanne) Greer of Valparaiso; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Charles (Helen) Greer of Kempton, IL and Robert Greer of Michigan City; brother-in-law, Wayne Utterback; many nieces, nephews and other loving family.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Shirley (nee Raines); son, Mark; brothers, Warren, Eugene and Larry Greer; sister, Judy Utterback; sister-in-law, Margaret Greer

Memorial contributions in Donald's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

A funeral service for Donald will be Monday, January 4, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., with Rev. Kenneth Gamblin officiating.
