Donald Marion McClaran, Jr. of Lake Station passed away Wednesday June 29, 2016. Donald was born January 15, 1940 to the late Donald and Peggy McClaran, Sr. in Chicago, Illinois. Donald was the president of the election board of the United Steel Workers Local Union. He was a griever for the union and a retired speed operator. He leaves behind his best pal Willis Bowman.
Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman. He would proudly say that he played on the same softball team for 25 years. As quoted in the Post-Tribune in 1990 "Donald was one of the strongest men you will ever meet". He was very strong but we all got a big laugh. Donald was his daughter Vickie's best friend and she will miss him every day. He always had his lunch date every Wednesday with his daughters Vickie and Tina and her beautiful grandchildren Summer, Lucas, Morgan and Jaxson. He enjoyed his grandchildren Nathan McClaran, Jordan Mauch, Nicholas Brant and Taylor Brant.
Donald is survived by his two daughters Victoria (Jeff) and Tina (Rick); he is also survived by his two sisters Ruth (Jerry) and Mickie (Tom); his special friend Ronny Teselski and her kind family; his favorite brother-in-law Joe, his nieces and nephews Joseph (Mindy), Calvin (Faith), Luke and Leah.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret. He went to join her in heaven on their 55th wedding anniversary, even though he had a saying that his wife woke up extra early so that she had more time to be mad at him during the day. He was also preceded in death by his beautiful daughter Catherine and his sister Lucy and brother-in-law Don.
Donald and Margaret always had a saying: They tried to help everyone and they never ever stopped trying.
