Donald H. Urbanek "Don the Mailman", age 71, of Portage and formerly of Lake Station passed away Tuesday August 26, 2014 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Don was born January 14, 1943 in Gary, Indiana to the late Leo and Catherine Urbanek. Don retired from the US Postal Service after many years as a carrier in Aetna, Miller and Lake Station. Before that he served with the U.S. Army in Korea.

Donald is survived by one son, Steven Urbanek of Portage; two daughters Julia Urbanek of Kaiserslautern, Germany and Barbara (Bruno) Wissinger of Erding, Germany; two grandchildren Iris and Matthias Wissinger of Germany; one brother, Terry (Mary) Urbanek of Peotone, IL and two sisters, Leona (Walter) Shear of Fort Myers and Ellen Rita (Joseph) Obirek of Niles, IL, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Martha, parents Leo and Catherine, brother Daniel Urbanek and sister Patricia Therasse.

Visitation will be from 1-5:30 pm Sunday September 14, 2014 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana with a 5 pm Prayer Service conducted by Deacon Richard Huber, followed by cremation.
