Donna J. Hecht, age 83 of Hobart passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017. She was born on August 20, 1933in Churubusco, Indiana to the late Everett and Zelma Harter. She graduated from Tolleston High School, Class of 1951. Donna retired from the Electrical Department at McGill Manufacturing in Valparaiso after 22 years of service. She was a longtime member of Assumption BVM Church in New Chicago. Donna was known for her crochet work on baby blankets. She also enjoyed being active with the YMCA Arthritis Class for 17 years and working puzzle books. Her fondest memories where traveling with her husband to see light houses. Donna will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by four children, Kathleen (George) Novosel of Hudson, OH; Theresa "Teri" Canzoneri of Hobart, IN; Arthur (Kathy) Hecht Jr. of Canfield, Ohio; Laura (L.B.) McElwain of Wheeler , IN; seven grandchildren, Benjamin(Shanna), Jessica (Chris), and Matthew , Tony (Kim), Sarah, Arthur III "A.J.", and Sophie Hecht; four great grandchildren, Holden, Everett, Ryan and Chaylee and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur J. Hecht Sr., one sister, Shirley Saklak, and one son-in-law, Paul C. Schramm II.

Funeral service are Monday, May 1, 2017 beginning with 9:30 a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart and proceeding to Assumption BVM for a 10:00 a.m. mass of Christian burial with Rev. Lourdu Pasala officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
