Doris A. Meilahn

Doris A. (nee Sallach) Meilahn, age 95, of Hobart, passed away July 15, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 8, 1922 in Etna, PA to the late Paul and Hildegarde Sallach. Doris worked as an elementary school teacher for most of her life at various Lutheran schools. She was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hobart. In her free-time, she enjoyed writing poetry.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Judy) Meilahn; daughters, Catherine Poegel, Margaret Meilahn, Deborah Meilahn, Janet (John) Koncki; grandchildren, Valerie (Grant) McBride, Jeremy Poegel, Natalie (Vincent) Beard, Stephanie (fiancé, Rev. John Eyer) Poegel, Stephen (Deanna) Meilahn, Lauren Koncki; 6 great grandchildren; and one brother, Arthur Sallach.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard Meilahn in 1978; and son-in-law, Alan Poegel. Memorial contributions in Doris' name may be made to Trinity Lutheran School, 891 S. Linda St., Hobart.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 20, 2017 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A funeral service for Doris will take place Friday, July 21, 2017 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 Luther Drive, Hobart, IN with additional visitation at the church from 10:30 am until the time of service. Rev. Nathan Kramer is officiating. She will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery in Worth, Illinois. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109.
