Obituary

Doris E. Worthington, age 94, was born April 12, 1922 in Hobart, IN. She passed away at Aperion Care in Valparaiso, IN on Saturday, July 23, 2016.

Doris is survived by her four children, Patricia (Donald) Glenn of Portage, Gerry (Lester) Healy of Arizona, Robert Thomas Worthington, Jr. (Nell) of Hobart and Debra (Merel) Nelson of Portage, eight grandsons, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Ethel (nee Frame) Carlson and her husband of 62 years, Robert Thomas Worthington, Sr.

Doris graduated from Hobart High School and was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Hobart.
She was an accomplished painter and her children have many of her paintings, which they treasure. She sewed many clothes for her children and she also crocheted Afghans for them. She and her husband lived in Florida for a number of years and visited with relatives and friends there. She cared for her father and her in-laws until their passing. Doris was always smiling and had a happy, positive outlook on life. She was our teacher, mentor and made sure that we attended church and Sunday School. She was a wonderful role model and mother. She will be sorely missed.

Memorial Contributions, in Doris's honor, are preferred to Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church, 207 Kelly Street, Hobart, IN 46342.

There will be no visitation. Cremation will be followed by a private graveside service at Calvary Cemetery in Portage, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
