DORIS J. WRIGHT, age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2024. She was born at home on May 15, 1930, in Griffith, Indiana. She was a lifelong resident of Lake Station and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was married to Gene A. Wright for almost 36 years who preceded her in death in 1984.
Doris was a stay-at-home Mom while her children were young and in school. She was active as a room mother, volunteer, member and officer of the PTO. She entered the workforce as a Paraprofessional Teacher for River Forest Community Schools, retiring after 21 years. For many years she worked part-time at Miller's Merry Manor in the kitchen and worked at the Polls during elections in various positions, retiring from that two years ago.
Doris was born into a Christian home, the second child of six daughters and was affectionately nicknamed Sonny by her father. She loved her church family and serving her Lord throughout the years in many areas, singing in the choir, Sunday School Teacher, officer of the Ladies Missionary Guild, attendant in the Nursery and wherever needed. She belonged to the Lake Station Senior Citizens and enjoyed her time with them and playing Bingo every week. Doris was always a hard worker who loved and cherished the time she spent with her family and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Doris is survived by her children, Bonnie (Terry) Baum of Surprise, AZ, Colette (Bob) Evans of Hobart, Susan Wright-Meiss, of Missouri, and Timothy Wright of Hobart; grandchildren, Alan (Anita) Baum, Angela (Mike) Griffith, Ryan Evans, Shane (Kelly) Evans, Shannon Blohm, Chad (Tracy) Wright, Ashley Meiss, Sarah Langston, and Peyton Wright; great grandchildren, Hannah Baum, Jared Baum, Logan Baum, Cooper Evans, Lucy and Presley Blohm, Sydney Wright, Makenna McCoy and Silas Rogers; sisters, Dorothy Farmer, Marilyn (Millard-MJ) Brown, Patricia Scott, and Judith Hixon.
She was also preceded in death by parents, Francis and Ruth Milam, her granddaughter Tarrah McCoy, sister Evelyn Augenstine, brother-in-law Raymond Augenstine, Harold Farmer, Melvin Scott, and Marvin Hixon.
A visitation for Doris will be held at Rees Funeral Home 600 Old Ridge Road Hobart, Indiana on Monday December 16, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Her funeral service will follow immediately at 11:00 am at the Funeral Home with Pastor Benjamin Devine officiating. Burial will follow in Sanders Cemetery in Lowell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Lake Station.
