Dorothy Hicks, age 87, a longtime resident of Portage passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. She was born on July 22, 1924 in Gary, Indiana the daughter of Michael and Margaret Gottschling. Dorothy was married to Carl C. Hicks on October 14, 1950 in Lake Station. Dorothy was a member of the Saxon Lodge # 93 of the Alliance of Transylvanian Saxons. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, canning, and gardening. Dorothy enjoyed life and being with her family.

Dorothy is survived by her loving family, son Ronald (Sharon) Hicks, Portage, grandson Gail Gragido, nieces Rozanne Horn, JoEllen Mills, Donna Hanchar, and Carol Sue Carlson, and other loving family and dear friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl C. Hicks, 4 sisters, and 5 brothers.

A visitation for Dorothy Hicks will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A funeral service will follow immediately at 11:00 am on Thursday at Rees Funeral Home with Pastor Timothy Engel, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Portage.
