Dorothy Agnes (Bakalski) Kolakowski, age 89, of Portage passed away Sunday July 8, 2018 at Porter Hospital, Portage Campus.  Dorothy was born August 23, 1928 in Gary, Indiana to the late Arthur and Agnes (Malek) Bakalski.  Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife.  She worked at the Gary Sheet and Tin Mill for several years prior to her marriage.  She was fiercely devoted to her family and very proud of her Polish heritage.

Dorothy is survived by her three children, Arthur "Ed" (Janice) Giese of Chesterton, Kathy Johnson (Nee Giese) of Portage and Kevin Giese of Chesterton; four grandchildren, Michele Stanton, Mandy Stanton,  Austin Giese and Robert  Johnson; two great grandchildren, Odin and Von Giese.

She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband Anthony Kolakowski; grandson Arthur Adam Giese; four siblings; Anthony "Archie" Bakalski, Wanda Smith and two infant brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Saturday July 14, 2018 at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church 2949 Willowcreek Road Portage, Indiana 46368 with Rev. Kevin McCarthy officiating.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Ave. Portage, IN 46368 with a 4:00 pm Prayer Service and from 9:00 to time of Mass Saturday at the Church.
