Dorothy M. Gruett, age 83, a resident of Portage, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. She was born on November 20,1927 in Marion, Illinois the daughter of the late Harley and Lula Franklin. Dorothy was married to Gerald Gruett Sr. on April 18,1952 in East Gary. Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hobart, and retired after 20 years of employment at Bethlehem Steel, 160 Plate Mill. She was an avid bowler, past president of the PTA and helped with the cub scouts. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a dear friend to all.Dorothy is survived by her loving family; husband of 58 years; Gerald Gruett Sr. of Portage, 3 sons; Gerald (Rhonda) Gruett Jr. of Porter, Mike (Suzanne) Gruett of Plymouth, and Dan (Linda) Gruett of Valparaiso, 1daughter; Debi Gruett of Crown Point, 5 grandchildren; Sarah (Chris) Gorski of Valparaiso Matthew (Beth) Gruett of Portage, David (Chrissy) Gruett of Porter, Jenifer (Derek) Anderson of Portage, Karly Gruett of Plymouth, 8 ½ great grandchildren, brother Coy Franklin and sister Shirley Whitehead both of Marion, IL and other loving family and dear friends.Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, brother Dale Franklin and Uncle Jack and Aunt Ione Franklin and her faithful fury companion Peaches.A visitation for Dorothy M. Gruett will be held 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana. A funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 Luther Drive, Hobart, Indiana 46342 with additional viewing from noon until time of service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, Indiana. Memorials in Dorothy's memory may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
