Dorothy Ann Smith, age 84, of Lake Station passed away Wednesday February 18, 2015 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. Dorothy was born September 21, 1930 in Hobart, IN to the late Anthony and Matilda (Schmidt) Springman. Dorothy was a homemaker, mother and loving grandmother. She was a member of the Hobart Elks Lodge and Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Dorothy is survived by four children, Fred (Dawn) Smith of Crossville, Tennessee, Dennis (Ruth) Smith of Portage, Deborah (James) Pantell of Portage and Diane (Timothy) Chappo of Portage; twelve grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; two sisters June Dodge of Iowa and Gerry Paul of Merrillville; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband Fred; her parents; one granddaughter Amy Urchick; two brothers Ralph and Anthony Springman; and two sisters Ruth Mohler and Robin Puinti.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday February 21, 2015 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342 with Rev. Timothy Engel officiating. Memorial visitation will be Saturday from 1-2 pm at the Funeral Home.

Memorial gifts are preferred to the Porter County VNA Hospice Center 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383 in lieu of flowers.
