Douglas K. Keleman, age 54 of Portage, passed away Monday, January 10, 2022. He was born on June 21, 1967 in Gary, Indiana to the late Daniel and Joan Keleman. As an American patriot, he proudly joined the United States Navy immediately after high school and served his country in the Persian Gulf. Doug was a plank owner of the USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) which was one of the ships escorting oil tankers in and out of the Persian Gulf amid rising tension prior to the Gulf War. He was currently employed as a millwright at US Steel. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union and the Porter County Conservation Club. Doug took great pride in his pool and his garden and enjoyed cooking meals for his family every day. He bowled on various leagues and loved his Harley Davidson. Above all, he adored his grandsons who lovingly referred to him as "Pop Pop"
He is survived by his beloved wife, Annissa Keleman; daughter Megan Keleman; grandsons, Evren and Kanan Ewing; brothers, Darrell (Denise) Keleman, Duane (Jill) Keleman; sister, Darla (Arnie) Kirn; and many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Keleman; and parents, Daniel and Joan Keleman.
Visitation for Doug will be held Friday, January 14, 2022 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 356 West Seven Mile Road, Valparaiso with Rev. Paul Quanz officiating.
