Earl P. Benzer, age 83, of Hobart passed away Friday, October 28, 2011. Earl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rhoda (nee Niksch) Benzer; 3 children, Dena (Jeff) Hertel of Franklin Lakes, NJ, Daniel (Karen) Benzer of Chesterton and Dale Benzer; 6 grandchildren; one great grandson; Sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lucille Niksch, Mrs. Leola Niksch, and Mrs. Nancy Niksch and many nieces and nephews. Earl was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church serving as a deacon and a member of The Board of Christian Education and Evangelism and was a trustee. He proudly served his county in the US Army during the Korean conflict. Earl was employed at Inland Steel for 38 years. After retiring, he worked for 15 years for the Hobart Bureau of Motor Vehicles as a driver's examiner.

A funeral service for Earl will be Monday, October 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6240 Grand Boulevard, Hobart, Indiana with Rev. Frederic Lams officiating. Burial will follow at Hobart Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana.
