Earl Albert Schmidt

Age 86, a longtime northwest Indiana resident passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012, at St. Marys Medical Center in Hobart. Earl was born on July 25, 1925 the son of the late Emil and Emma Schmidt in Chicago, IL. Earl was a retired Pipe Fitter for Local 597; he proudly served in the United States Army, and was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Valparaiso. Earl will be remembered as a loving; husband, father, grandfather, father- in -law, brother and friend. Earl enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and spending time with his family.
Earl is survived by his loving family and wife of 65 years; Maria (nee Kugener) Schmidt of Portage, son; Earl (Rhonda) Schmidt of Wheatfield, daughter; Julie (Richard) Rans of Hobart, 5 grandsons; Nicholas Schmidt, Danny Schmidt, Steven Schmidt, Matt Cummings and Hunter Rans, sister; Anna (Cameron) Beeler of Valparaiso, numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Richard, Robert and James Schmidt and sister; Cora Hughes.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, with Mike Beeler officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 19,2012 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. also at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
